Scottish Wildcat Day - August 8

The rare Scottish Wildcat is a sub population of the European Wildcat (Felis silvestris) and was declared functionally extinct a few years ago. Re-introduction programs are underway to restore the 'Highland Tiger' to its former range.

World Lion Day - August 10

August 10 - World Lion Day

Lions (Panthera leo) are the largest wild cat in Africa, and the second largest big cat worldwide after Tigers. Populations of the 'king of the jungle' have dramatically declined by nearly half in just two decades.

African Wildcat Day - September 18

The African Wildcat, which is now called the Afro-Asiatic Wildcat (Felis lybica) is common across its range, however, is being affected by inbreeding with domestic and feral cats, with which they are very closely related.

Geoffroy's Cat (Leopardus geoffroyi) is a small, wild cat found only in South America. These beautiful cats are facing habitat destruction, retaliatory killing, poaching, fires, poisoning and disease.

Fishing Cat February

February 1 - World Fishing Cat Day

The Fishing Cat Conservation Alliance also declared Fishing Cat February as a month-long awareness campaign to educate people about the Fishing Cat; based on February 2nd being World Wetlands Day.
Additionally Fishing Cat Day was launched on February 22nd as an annual event by a Protected Area in India - Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.

This day is scheduled on the third Saturday of each March, so the date changes each year.
